“When women thrive, we all rise,” said the Honorable High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka, Isabelle Martin, at FSLGA’s Abhimani Awards 2026. Held at the BMICH, the event celebrated women leaders in local government in honor of International Women’s Day. The Honorable Commissioner’s speech recognized the integrity, strength, and innovation women bring to governance, while highlighting the need for more opportunities. Awards were given to honor women leaders in local governance across four categories, showcasing both progresses achieved and the work still needed to empower women in leadership. This effort was supported by the Partnerships for Municipal Innovations – Women in Local Leadership (PMI-WILL) project.
