FSLGA initiated a pilot program titled “Enhancing Community Resilience to Impacts of Climate Change and Disaster Management” in four Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Sabaragamuwa Province. This project aims to fortify the legal and policy frameworks, enhance the skills of officers, and collaborate with communities to bolster their resilience capabilities.
The project stands out for its integrated approach, focusing on improving the resilience and climate change adaptation capacities of communities and infrastructure. It involves diverse stakeholders, including state and non-state institutions, communities, and key partners across national, provincial, and local levels.
The project launch was held on the 18th July 2024 at Ratnapura, and was chaired by the Provincial Commissioner of Local Government of Sabaragamuwa Province. Representatives from the Aranayake, Deraniyagala, Kalawana, and Ayagama Pradeshiya Sabhas (the pilot councils for the project), along with officials from the National Building Research Organization, Climate Change Secretariat, Disaster Management Center, Geological and Mines Bureau, and Divisional Secretaries from the respective areas, attended the session.
